It has been brought to my attention that I used a baseball metaphor in Monday’s post, when I said that a specific production made the opera feel as if had been hurled in out of left field. It has also been brought to my attention that this is not the first time this has happened. Some months ago I was discussing a production of Alcina and made reference to the fact that Alcina’s dress refused to play ball for a while during “Ah! mio cor.”
I guess I have one more strike and I’m out never mind.
Perhaps if you got a non-American English speaker to pinch hit for you while you work on your swing, your bases would be covered.
