I was dithering between the Peter Sellars version of Le Nozze di Figaro and Lully’s Armide. Ultimately I decided to go with Lully – for some reason, I have not been in the mood for Sellars lately.
To distract us all from the memory of how Lully died here is a picture of the chapel at Versailles. Much prettier than a gangrenous foot!
(Is it considered honorable for a conductor/composer to die from a baton-inflicted wound – sort of like going down in the line of fire? Or is it merely a little bit embarrassing?)
