Friday science joke: fluctuations

A biologist explaining to another biologist why I am going to hear the same concert again on Friday as I heard on Wednesday: “[Earworm] is like the Bill Bialek of music appreciation. She’s only interested in the fluctuations.”

(The explanation is that Bialek’s work focuses on random fluctuations within the cell due to there being a only a small number of molecules and how these unpredictable fluctuations affect the operation of the cell.)

This is the type of thing that happens when you hang out with scientists.
