Listening to things on YouTube is totally a form of research

You know how sometimes if you listen to the same recording of something over and over it can start to feel like having the same conversation with the same person over and over – you start to notice little details in the interpretation that irritate you, or things you used to find unobjectionable or even praiseworthy are now just a little bit annoying?

Result: I should be working, but I’m trawling new recordings of the Archduke Trio.

  1. I totally agree (says the man who recently spent well over an hour comparing recordings of Arbace’s aria “Se il tuo duol, se il mio desio” from Idomeneo on the tooob.
