Deep thoughts on listening to the Connolly / Henschel / Herreweghe recording of Des Knaben Wunderhorn

Dietrich Henschel’s imitation of the donkey in “Lob des hohen Verstands” leaves much to be desired.  Dude, you’re a baritone – I know you can sound more like a donkey than that. You gotta let that shit rip, you know?

  1. 1. Sorry to hear DH didn’t let loose.
    2. I love Philippe Herreweghe but what is he doing conducting Wagner? (OTOH, he does do pretty cool Brahms.)
    3. I now have that song stuck in my head (along with Ging heut’ morgen from the Wayfarer)! Thank you, Earworm!

    …Kuckuck und Nachtigal…(damn!)

    1. haha! You’re welcome.

I don’t know what he’s doing with this late Romantic stuff either, but it seems to work. I intend to listen to the recording again with an ear to the orchestral bits, but it hasn’t happened yet (am currently buried under a terrifying writing deadline and a stack of undergraduate papers about Cabeza de Vaca)
