Frau R is sick and will not be singing Strauss in Chicago next week – I hope she’s feeling better soon. I was looking forward to hearing her, but it’s not the end of the world. On the hierarchy of all possible concerts, if one has to be cancelled I’d much rather miss out on Strauss’s Four Last Songs than, say, a full-on opera or a song recital.
On the other hand, I get to hear La Cenerentola at the Met this afternoon, so all is not lost. (Though in the hierarchy of all possible concerts, Rossini does rank below Strauss. I will be the first to admit that.)
