Not twisted by anything exciting, either, like rock climbing or skateboarding. No. I managed to gimp myself up by . . . stepping off a curb. So I have both the twisted ankle and a bruise on my other knee that looks like someone whacked me across the leg with a lead pipe. I’m feeling slightly stupid as well as a little sore, so I distracted myself by listening to the Kodály Quartet minus one violinist play Beethoven’s Op. 3 and Op. 8 string trios. One of those deliciously cheap (and good) Naxos recordings.
And regarding string trios, I discovered that the Zimmermann Trio, whose performance of Beethoven’s Op. 9 trios at the Schwetzinger festival a few months back I enjoyed, have a CD of those very trios! I haven’t listened to it yet, but it’s sitting here on my table sort of twinkling at me:
CD: EARWORM. HEY EARWORM. LISTEN TO ME. PUT DOWN THE BOOK ABOUT JAMESTOWN. ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE DEAD. THEY CAN WAIT. I AM FULL OF COMPLICATED AND INTERESTING COMBINATIONS OF SOUND THAT YOU WILL ENJOY.
Me: But Beethoven is dead too. And I need to read this book.
CD: THE ZIMMERMANN TRIO ARE NOT DEAD. THEIR PERFORMANCE IS LIVELY AND INTERESTING.
Me: So is Jamestown!
CD: BULLSHIT. ALL THOSE PEOPLE DO NOTHING BUT SHOOT INDIANS AND DIE OF MALARIA.
Me: You know a lot about colonial America for a Beethoven recording.
CD: I AM INTERESTING IN ALL KINDS OF UNEXPECTED WAYS. LISTEN TO ME. NOW NOW NOW.
I want that CD. NOW!!!! (Sorry to hear about your ankle. I find myself falling off of or over curbs more and more frequently. I blame it on the progressive lenses.)

I found the trios on emusic and downloaded the recording last night. Do you have the number for Impulse Purchasers Anonymous?

I don’t even have glasses to blame this one on – it was just me being a klutz. Ah, well.
I know what you mean about impulse purchases – I find it very hard not to buy music. But unlike, say, clothing or other common items, I can at least say that I’ve rarely regretted a CD or a download.

I could use reccs for buggered up ankle music having two of them myself…
Extremely Distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon to me on looking at DIs of my ankles: “You have what we othopods technically call a mess.”
Also need listening material as viewing is rather tiring right now owing to cataract surgery on Tuesday.

I don’t have a mess yet, but I think I’m headed in that direction. I managed to give myself a really bad running injury years ago in college, and as a result my right ankle and knee tend to get injured far more easily than they ought to.
It sounds like the surgery went well?

It’s early days but the signs are all good at the moment. I can see better with my right eye than I’ve ever been able to.
